Day Skipper
Before coming to do the Day Skipper practical it is highly recommended that you do the day skipper theory course first, you want to be able to concentrate on your practical skippering skills during this week.
You should have at least 100 nautical miles under your belt. The course is conducted over 5 days or 3 weekends during which time you will continually assessed and guided by your instructor. This course will teach you the skills you need to skipper a small boat safely during daylight hours in waters that are familiar to you, including boat handling, navigation, sail selection and engine maintenance. Skippering a boat for the first time is daunting, you are responsible for the well being of both the boat and the crew, the Day Skipper practical course teaches you the best way of doing just that. After that it’s up to you where you go and when, the Day Skipper certificate will enable you to charter boats from most companies.
